Whether your lives are happy or full of sorrow,
you believe the stories you tell yourself and others,
because it makes the games you play together more enjoyable."

Kitchen Wisdom

A couple of days ago, while waiting for the kettle to boil, I enjoyed the view from my kitchen window and thought about how snow muffles sound when it cushions the ground.
It's like anything used to cover up anything. We cushion something (or ourselves) in order to protect or muffle sounds and sensations. It takes courage to allow ourselves to reveal what it looks like to be really alive, to be vulnerable, to make noise.

My good friend, Mikaya Heart, talks about this in her new book,
Life, Lies, and Sex - A User's Guide to Being in a Body.

This post resonates with me, particularly as of late. AMAG told me once that I had been muting myself, hiding my "shine." I thought about what they shared, and agreed I had unconsciously made efforts to be "matte" to be average, hidden, unnoticed. I realized it must have felt safer to me, than to shine. But the awareness made me WANT to shine, to be bright. When I allowed it, I felt not just bright, but light. I am still learning to "unmuffle" myself. I will say the quiet a blanket of snow brings is peaceful. Our cushions are there for comfort when we need it, but I appreciate this reminder if you sit on them too long you get bedsores! ;) (I'm looking forward to reading Mikaya's book! <3 )
